GBS & AROUND THE WORLD
Document management (DM) is the systematic capture, control, storage and retrieval of documents. The DM process can be incredibly time consuming and costly, and for this reason, it is too often ignored.
The National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) has issued NIST 800-171, a standard that affects any company that works with controlled unclassified information (CUI) from certain government agencies.
The deadline for compliance with these standards has already passed (December 2017).
While NIST 800-171 adds additional layers of needed security to a company’s DM process, it also is costly and time-consuming to implement and operate.
GBS has embraced NIST 800-171 in its newly released, and NIST 800-171 compliant, cloud-based, secure Submarine Cable Document Management System (SCDMS) in order to maintain the critical documents associated with submarine cables.
SCMDS is monitored by an independent, professional Security Operations Center (SOC). This 24/7 service continuously monitors performance, applies security patch updates for servers, and provides rapid incident response and notification.
GBS recognizes the crucial responsibility that cable owners must maintain myriad records for their cable system to assure that they are operated, administered, maintained, and repaired using the most current and secure information.
